We completed the first voice-over work in our homemade sound booth. Mike Lenz was the first voice-talent to give it a try. It was only a test run for Turbine Services Limited to get a feel for his style and sound.
Since last Fall I have slowly been collecting hardware and other materials to create a small sound studio. First we bought an M-box with ProTools, and hooked everything into an old Macintosh.
We also needed a room that would reduce the echo and give suitable sound quality. After a little research online, we came up with a movable door system. Home Depot is a good spot for buying cheap doors, and a foam topper stapled to the inside. This type of set up will allow us to expand and contract the size of the room. Nice.
After a few tries we finally had to fork over some money to buy a quality microphone, and we caught this Heil PR 40 on sale.
It isn’t pretty, but the results are actually quite good, with very little ambient sound in the background. There still more equipment to purchase, one more microphone, but we intend to make the whole thing look a little more professional.
